Streams for Crusaders vs Chiefs

Its Finals time in the Aotearoa competition again, and where else would it be, than Christchurch, the Crusaders earned the right to host the game, and the Chiefs are clearly next best and ready to challenge the great team, in what should be a fitting final to a quality competition.  Canterbury had a solid 6-2 regular season, if not quite as spectacular as their 7-1 in 2020 campaign, and are well rested having played Auckland a fortnight ago, winning here in Christchurch by 29-6, then enjoying a round 10 bye.  Waikato meanwhile had a productive 5-3 campaign, finally getting the winning bug, after not doing so at all in 2020 and the early rounds here, and finished the regular season by losing 39-19 against Auckland, but fielding a 2nd-string team as they knew they had to be ready for this game.  Lovely sunny skies await in Christchurch, though the wind could make it a tricky ball-control game; a big sell-out crowd is surely expected.

Both teams will be at full-strength and ready to do battle in what will be a memorable finale, which also serves as preparation for next week, when the Super Trans-Tasman season begins. Pita-Gus Sowakula is the only holdover from the Waikato forwards, that started against Auckland, but he moves to flanker.  Bryn Gatland is another, as he is key to the Chiefs fortunes, in the halves, and will need to bring his best kicking game, against the best team Canterbury.  Canterbury do not have a weak-point in their team, as they look to continue their long-time dominance on the domestic front.

Canterbury did lose against a rampaging Waikato last time these teams met, by 1 point in Waikato, but this is a wholly different battle, at Christchurch in a big game.  The champions won by 22 points last time they met Waikato here in Christchurch 39-17, and Canterbury put a 24-game Finals unbeaten streak on the line here at this venue. Canterbury are -10 in the handicap margin markets, and $1.22 favourites to hoist their 2nd Aotearoa title, in as many years, while Waikato are $4.50, and need fortune to favour them, if they are to raise their flag, following what should be a cracking encounter.

PREDICTION: Canterbury by at least 7.

BETTING TIP: $2.40 for the Crusaders to win by 1-12 makes most sense.
