FEATHERSTONE ROVERS VS HULL FC

SATURDAY APRIL 10, 7 PM, THE MILLENIUM STADIUM, FEATHERSTONE

Early promotion favourites from the Championship, rugby league’s 2nd tier in the UK, Featherstone host Hull FC in what will surely be a tricky fixture for them, as they attempt to announce their abilities on a big stage.  Hull FC showed fine form in the early fixtures of the new campaign last weekend, when they put Salford to the sword, scoring a 35-4 win, on the back of a 22-10 win against Huddersfield the week before.  Featherstone have just begun their campaign, winning 28-18 against the Batley Bulldogs, at this venue, and were led well by recognizable names such as Fa’amanu Brown and Junior Moors as well as Craig Kopczak.  Some rain and wind is set to make the conditions less than ideal at this game also, in increasingly cold conditions as the evening goes on, with a minimum temperature of about 4 degrees during the game.

Hull FC have been dealt a savage blow, as their prized signing, Josh the grub Reynolds is out for up to 2 months, after damaging his hamstring in the win last weekend, while another former NRL player, Ligi Sao is also out.  The likes of Tuimavave and Sneyd as well as Ma’u will be relied on for Hull FC in order to avoid them, having their pants pulled down by Featherstone who have some quality in their line-up.  Featherstone have the same squad that were good enough to beat Batley last weekend, and will look to take the game to Hull FC, and as mentioned they have stars capable of troubling the top-flight club.  Especially Brown, he was a quality piece for Cronulla in the NRL as recently as 2017, before injuries hurt his chances of sticking with the troubled Bulldogs club, he also has 5 international appearances for Samoa.

These teams famously played the Final of the Challenge Cup way back in 1983, when Featherstone as they are this game, were underdogs and defeated a strong Hull FC club, despite Hull FC being league champions to boot.  Featherstone are $151 chances of taking this Challenge Cup, while FC are $7, showing that it would be an upset for the ages if they could repeat their efforts from 38 years ago, in this round of 16, and then tear through 3 more quality teams in the finals stages.  FC are $1.06 to win, leaving it crystal clear, bookies give Featherstone no chance, as they are +20.5 in margin betting markets and outsiders in the win market at $8.

PREDICTION: FC by 20.

BETTING TIP: $1.90 taking the -20.5 start for Hull is interesting.
