Old south island rivals Otago and Waikato are preparing to do battle yet again in the Saturday evening Aotearoa fixture, coming from the iconic Dunedin location, in what is a matchup that never ceases to produce great entertainment.  Otago stunned the rugby world last weekend, beating the previously untouchable Canterbury Crusaders in style, 33-12, which puts them 3rd, still a win behind Auckland and 2 behind Canterbury.  Waikato had the weekend off, but in their last action produced a rather noteworthy win of their own against the Blues at home, winning 15-12, and have a 2-2 record, which means they would at least temporarily leap to 2nd by winning this with a bonus point.  Morning showers should clear, but strong wind will persist throughout the day in Dunedin, making for tricky conditions for the players, with temperature of around 14 degrees.

Kaylum Boshier has the huge job of filling Sam Cane’s shoes, after the great All Black was ruled out for the season due to injury, as the younger Boshier beat out his older brother Lahclan for the vacant position.  Josh Hohneck starts at prop for Otago as Tokolahi drops to the bench, while the inclusion of Lentjes at flanker also sees Harmon move to an interchange role.  Co-captain Smith starts in the halves for Otago, while Tomkinson starts at outside centre and Punivai gets a game on the wing.  Vaa’I gets a game at lock for Waikato too, and they have named two new wingers in the form of Lowe and Nanai-Seturo, in a game that means everything to both club’s seasons.

Otago were too good for Waikato back in round 2, when they won 39-23, but both teams have shown plenty since, and this shapes as a cracking encounter, between two of the teams playing the best rugby in the competition currently.  Otago have had a good streak of dominance against the Chiefs, as they have now won 5 straight games against them, and will be ever so eager to win a 6th.  Otago are $1.70 favourites in a game that is expected to go down to the wire, as the Highlanders are handicapped at just 3 points, while Waikato are $2.20 chances.  Expect a big crowd to watch a brutal and exciting game of Rugby, where anything happens between these two clubs.

PREDICITON: Otago too good, win by 5.

BETTING TIP: $2.60 is decent odds for Otago to win by 1-12.
