UK CHALLENGE CUP QUARTER FINAL

HULL FC VS WIGAN WARRIORS

SATURDAY MAY 8, 2.30 PM, EMERALD HEADINGLEY STADIUM, LEEDS

After 2 of the quarter finals were decided on Friday, two more will be played at Leeds again Saturday; in the early fixture, hot team Wigan take on the improvers Hull FC, in what is sure to be an interesting match.  Hull FC are playing good rugby league currently, and were way better than Featherstone in their round of 16 match, they travelled to Wigan and lost by a slender 2-point margin last weekend in the Super League, which left them 5th with a 3-1-1 record.  Wigan are unbeaten in both competitions of 2021 to date, having smashed York City 26-0 in the round of 16, and looked great in the Super League, with a for/against record of 111-56.  Cool weather complicated by rain and wind is sure to make this a tricky fixture for both teams, on what will be a tiring pitch due to all 4 games of the round being played here.

Connor and Fash lose their positions in the Hull FC squad, while Scott Taylor is ruled out with a foot injury, in probably the most concerning change for the challengers.  They have two quality replacements coming into the side though, as Manu Ma’u and Josh Reynolds are on hand to play, after missing the close thing against Wigan last weekend.  Clubb is banned for 8 games for a racist slur during that game, which was quite heated at times, and replaced by Manfredi who has rehabbed another knee injury. Jake Connor is also suspended after a high shot on Hardaker.

Hull FC will probably have some confidence after the Wigan game last weekend, and it is a known fact, that it is difficult for a team to defeat the same opponent consecutively.  These teams also famously met last year in a playoff game, that saw Wigan smash FC 29-2 and advance to the Grand Final; it was similarly ugly for Hull in their Challenge Cup meeting last season.  Wigan are $1.53 favourites to continue their winning trend against Hull FC, but only by 4 points if the margin market is accurate, while FC are $2.50 chances of grabbing that win.

PREDICTION: Wigan too good, win by 10.

BETTING TIP: $2.37 for Wigan to win by 1-12 is good value.
