The Super League pauses this weekend for the round of 16 Challenge Cup fixtures, which kicks off in Hull as their beloved Rovers take on Castleford for a place in the quarter finals.  Castleford have had a fine start to the new campaign, having defeated Warrington and Leeds, producing two good wins, when they were playing more fancied opponents.  Hull KR gave their fans some hope of decent season by playing out a thriller with Catalans on opening weekend where only a Maloney field goal was the difference, but then fell flat against St Helens as the Saints rampaged to a 25-0 win.  Cool but relatively clear conditions are awaiting in Hull, with no real threat of rain or much wind, the players should have a good environment, although the game is being played behind closed gates.

KR have been dealt a blow as big-forward Matty Storton is ruled out of this clash after suffering a head knock last weekend, but have a ready-made or even better replacement if Korbin Sims passes a concussion protocol test of his own.  Minchella is done for the season after he ruptured his ACL ligament, but KR will be boosted by the return of hard-running forward Albert Vete.  Keinhorst and Dagger have also been added to the KR squad.  For Castleford, they are boosted by the return of O’Brien who is another player dealing with concussion, with the omission of Lewis Peachey, comprising the only personnel adjustment for the Tigers.

Castleford and KR met in the pre-season just a few weeks ago, when the Tigers were victorious by 30-20, a testimonial game for Adam Milner.  Back in October 2020, the Tigers also won against KR in their latest Super League match, 38-24, meaning for Rovers fans it is tough to find a reason to be optimistic about this game.  The last Challenge Cup meeting between these teams was way back in 1986, when KR had a chance to win with a last ditch conversion that missed, handing the tie to Castleford.  The Tigers are strong favourites to beat KR yet again, as they are $1.16, and the Rovers are $5, while betting market margins are set at 14.5 points.

PREDICTION: Castleford to continue an impressive start to 2021 and book a place in the Quarter Finals.

BETTING TIP: Greg Eden to score a pair of tries at $4 is worth consideration.
