Koln vs Augsburg – Bundesliga Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 14 encounter, with Koln taking on Augsburg on Saturday the 2nd of January, 2021, at RheinEnergieStadion.

Koln visited RB Leipzig two weeks ago, failed to score, but managed to keep a clean sheet(!), and leave Leipzig with a rather unexpected point. Three days later, they hosted Osnabrück in the DFB Pokal, scored late in the first half, and that proved to be the only goal of the match, they qualified for the next round of the competition. Their current form reads; WDLWD. They are on 11 points from 13 matches in the Bundesliga, 15th in the table. They have 2W, 5D and 6L, more defeats than anything else, but only one in their last five Bundesliga games. Also, both their two wins have come in the same last five games. Goals, 13 scored, 21 conceded. Coach Markus Gisdol played a 4-3-3 formation against Leipzig, with Duda, Drexler and Thielmann up front. As hosts, Koln have earned just one point from their last four games(!). They may have improved, overall, the last month and a half, but not at home. The vast majority of their positive results has come on the road.

Augsburg hosted Eintracht Frankfurt two weeks ago, an Eintracht side that had… forgotten what it felt like to win a game. Somehow, Augsburg lost 0-2, making their guests’ life… easier with an own-goal in the 53rd minute (0-1). They failed to answer back, and conceded again in the dying minutes of the match. Three days later, another home defeat, to RB Leipzig, a 0-3 in the DFB Pokal, meaning that their campaign in that competition is over. Their current form reads; LLWDL. They are on 16 points from 13 matches, 11th in the table. They have 4W, 4D and 5L, having won just one of their last five games. Goals, 15 scored, 19 conceded. Coach Heiko Herrlich played a 4-4-2 formation against Eintracht, with Finnbogason and Niederlechner up front. Augsburg won their last away game, a 0-1 at Arminia Bielefeld on December 16, but before that, all they had managed in their three previous matches was a draw at Gladbach (1-1).

Both games between these two last season ended in a 1-1 draw.

A goalless draw is predicted at full-time.

Date: Saturday, 2nd of January, 2021.

Venue: RheinEnergieStadion

Kick-off time: 15:30 (GMT+2).
