Streams for Melbourne Demons vs Geelong Cats

Not many would have predicted the Demons to have been unbeaten after 3 games this season, and less would have said Geelong would lose to Adelaide and not beat Brisbane and Hawthorn by more than a combined goal.  But that is footy, and this is a real danger game for the reigning grand finalist Cats, as they would despise the thought of 2-2 with a poor percentage, which is the consequence if the Demons can top them here.  Melbourne have been solid, if not spectacular, as they have done all they needed to do, to defeat GWS, St Kilda and Fremantle, with the argument forthcoming that those three are not clear contenders.  That means this is Melbourne’s biggest test to date, which they ought to be relishing at the mecca of the AFL, the MCG.  Good enough conditions will prevail, after some morning showers, and a hefty wind which will need to be taken into account, with the swirl of the ball.

Melbourne are very settled in their selection process again this week, as they have just omitted Tom Sparrow, while in all likelihood he will be the medical sub, named before the game, nonetheless they look ready to go.  A salivating matchup between these two sides, comes in the ruck, as the best in the game, Max Gawn will look to outplay Rhys Stanley who is himself in the upper echelon conversation.  Geelong have 2 injures and 2 players not selected from last weeks squad that beat Hawthorn, as Max Holmes and Charlie Constable miss this game due to form, while Francis Evans and Shaun Higgins are not fit.  Brad Close will play in the forward pocket, also starting is Menegola in the other pocket up front and Zach Guthrie is on the bench, with one more player to be named.

Last season’s game between these clubs was a real stoush, as Geelong came close to losing after leading at 3 quarter time by 17 points, in a low-scoring nail-biter, eventually winning 47-44.  They also won by some 80 points in 2019, but the Demons were good enough to defeat Geelong by 29 back in 2018.  At this point, Melbourne are $15 hopes of ending their drought and winning the flag, while the Cats are shorter at $7, on the 3rd line in the market, behind Port and Richmond.  Geelong are handicapped at 1.5 points, meaning bookmakers say toss a coin in selecting your winner for this game, as Geelong are $1.85, and the Demons are right there at $1.97.

PREDICTION: Demons by a goal.

BETTING TIP: $2.40 for Melbourne to win by 1-39 is good value.
