AFL ROUND 8

MELBOURNE DEMONS VS SYDNEY SWANS

SATURDAY MAY 8, 7.25 PM, MELBOURNE CRICKET GROUND

Two of the biggest head-turning teams of the season to date, Melbourne and Sydney are to do battle, at the MCG, in a feature Saturday night game, which would have been scoffed at earlier in the year.  But Melbourne are remarkably unbeaten through 7 games, and easily accounted for the Kangaroos last weekend by 30, which means they should be confident of beating the Swans at home.  Sydney are 5-2 and 4th on the ladder, they outlasted Geelong by 2 points last time out in Sydney, but now face the never-ending question, that interstate teams face in the AFL, can they win in Melbourne? Showers threaten to interfere with this spectacle, but really just means that players have to focus on the simple things that little bit more, and for Melbourne spectators that they have to take a poncho, a large crowd will attend.

Nathan Jones and Oscar Baker miss out on selection for the Demons for this big game, while Adam Tomlinson cannot take his place in the side as he is hurt; Lever celebrates his 100th and will be hoping it is another win, as the Demons have not looked this good in a long time.  Petty gets a game at half back for the Demons, while their other inclusion Harmes will come off the bench.  Mills also has a milestone game, his 100th, this one in the midfield for the Swans, who are missing Heeney and Melican due to injury, and did not select Stephens or Clarke.  The biggest name inclusion for the Swans is Buddy Franklin who will start at full forward the role he has succeeded in for a decade or more, as a household name, while Rampe is back in the defenders group and Fox joins him.

Sydney managed a late 2020 season win against the Demons, despite neither team having much to play for at that stage in the season, as the entire season went down as unsuccessful for either club, while the 2019 results were split, with both teams winning and losing.  Sydney are not getting enough attention in the premiership market yet, as they are still $26 but 4th on the ladder, giving plenty of punters some hope of a big return; the unbeaten Demons are $5.50 chances of breaking their huge title drought.  Melbourne are $1.28 and -22.5 in the margin market, but will need to be wary of the Swans, as losing a player or two does not mean they are hopeless, they are $3.75.

PREDICTION: Melbourne at home, by 10-20.

BETTING TIP: Double your bet by saying Melbourne win by 1-39.
