Lyon vs Lorient - Ligue 1 Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Prediction.

French Ligue 1 continues on Saturday May 8, 2021 when Olympique Lyon vs. F.C. Lorient kicks-off at 16:00 (GMT+1), venue: Groupama Stadium.

Olympique Lyon defeated Monaco in a five-goal thriller which finished, 3-2 in favour of Lyon. Goals from Marcelo (77'), 17-year-old teenage sensation, Ryan Cherki (89') and a solo effort by Memphis Depay (57') helped Lyon outscore Monaco. Five red cards were brandished in total, three for Lyon while Monaco received two. The win keeps Lyon in 4th place with three wins in five games: DWWLW (Ligue 1) after 35 games. Les Gones have scored 70 goals and conceded 37 - hence, have a GD of +33 and 70 points after 20W, 10D & 5L. They average 2 goals per game and Rudi Garcia will be hoping his forwards can put in another brilliant performance on Saturday when they take on Lorient. A 3—4—1—2 formation is expected with Memphis Depay and Ekambi in attack while Lucas plays behind the duo. Ryan Cherki who scored the winner against Monaco may make another off-the-bench appearance on Saturday.

F.C Lorient are in 17th place on the table - having, 10W, 8D & 17L. They will be coming into this tie behind a 2-0 win over Angers. Yoane Wissa (44' P) put Lorient in the lead from the penalty spot before Fabien Lemoine (48') doubled the lead in the second half. Lorient played with the numerical advantage from the 15th minute onwards after Angers’ Lassana Coulibaly (R. 15') was sent off. However, Lorient's Julien Laporte (R. 50') was shown his second yellow card and the numerical advantage ceased to exist as both sides played with 10-men. It was the third win for Lorient in five games: WLLWW (Ligue 1). On goals, Lorient have only 46 goals but have conceded 62 which leaves them with a G.D. of -16. Les Merlus have a goal ratio of 1.31 goals per game and Christophe Pélissier will hope his side can score a goal or two on Saturday. A defensive 5—3—2 formation looks likely when Lorient with 38 points make another Ligue 1 appearance.

Both sides played a 1-1 draw the last time they met. Before that tie, Lorient took Lyon apart in a 4-1 win. An earlier tie ended in a 1-0 win for Lorient.

A 2-1 win for Lyon is predicted at full-time.
