Streams for Salford vs Widnes

Super League outfit Salford host Widnes in a busy day of knockout Challenge Cup matches, as the first of four games, gets underway in the early afternoon, ensuring minimal overlaps of games, so each game can be viewed, as they are played behind closed gates.  Cold weather and some showers are sure to spice up this game, as players look to strive for excellence in tricky conditions, at least no wind is about.  Salford have had a very poor start to the Super League season, losing both games by big margins, against Hull FC and St Helens, and will look to use this game as a building block to improve their season entirely.  Widnes started their Championship season with a 30-30 draw against Newcastle last weekend, and are viewed as a decent team in the competition, with odds of $17 to win the title and gain promotion, on the 4th line of betting.

Salford have included 5 different players to those who they used last weekend in their heavy loss against St Helens, as former NRL regular Darcy Lussick is set to make his 2021 debut, alongside the likes of Escare and Roberts.  Also coming into the side are Chris Atkin and Sam Luckley, though the likes of Ikahihifo, Mossop and Lolohea continue to be the key players, that can rescue Salford from what would be a shocking exit.  Widnes are struggling with injuries and players that have Covid-19 issues, and are only able to name a 20-man squad, instead of the usual 21, which matters little, as only 17 are allowed to play anyhow.  Widnes do have one familiar face to the Salford coaching staff, as Lee Jewitt signed on with the Vikings in the offseason, after playing 105 games for Salford between 2007-13.

Back in 2013, the Red Devils played against Widnes, as they were a Super League franchise and Salford won 28-22, in a slight upset, as the Vikings were a couple of positions higher than them.  Salford also put a more comprehensive score on Widnes in 2015 in the Super League as they won 38-6; Widnes have not featured in the top league since 2018, when they won just 3 games.  Salford are strong $1.08 favourites to advance and avoid the humiliation of a defeat against a lower tier team, while Widnes are +18.5 in margin handicap betting and $7 chances of winning.

PREDICTION: Salford by 20.

BETTING TIP: $1.90 with the handicapped start for Salford, meaning -18.5, seems reasonable.
