In unfortunate circumstances, that being a draw that puts two clear contenders in the round of 16, St Helens will face Leeds in a blockbuster Challenge Cup match at home, with the consolation prize of focusing on the Super League for losing this fixture.  Champions from 2020, the Saints have started 2021 off in fine style, belting Salford on opening day and following that up with a 25-0 shellacking of Hull KR.  The Saints are $4.33 to win the Challenge Cup, 2nd favourites behind Wigan, while Leeds are $17, as they will do well to defeat St Helens here.  Leeds have had a mixed start to 2021, after losing to the Tigers in week 1, before edging past the lowly Trinity 28-22 in their second game, and will need to lift in order to match the Saints.  Cool breezes and showers blowing around St Helens will make this game tricky for players and officials alike, especially with a maximum temperature of 8 degrees.

After being tipped to debut for Leeds in this fixture, Eastmond is still not named in the Leeds squad, meaning another week will tick by before he debuts. In further troubling news for Leeds chances, Richie Myler is out, which will ensure the likes of Broadbent, Hall and other youngsters such as Gannon continue to develop at the top level.  Coote the former NRL star will play after missing the opening two games, at fullback for St Helens, while Mark Percival is also returning after a leg injury on opening day.  St Helens will be buoyed by the announcement that half Jonny Lomax is extending his stay with the club, through at least 2024.  Defending Challenge Cup champions Leeds, are missing superstar Konrad Hurrell as well as Ash Handley and Harry Newman, making this especially difficult for them.

The most recent game between these clubs, ended terribly for Leeds, as the Saints marched to a 40-8 hiding of them, on their way to winning the title, and it was not much different in the earlier 2020 bout, when St Helens won 48-0.  These clubs have won 26 Challenge Cups between them, as St Helens have 12, but not since 2008 and Leeds have 14, though they are behind Wigan who have 19 titles to their name in this competition.  St Helens are $1.11 favourites to do the job here, which leaves Leeds praying for a result with odds of $6.50 and a handicapping of 16.5 points in the margin betting markets.

PREDICTION: St Helens by 20.

BETTING TIP: Back Naiqama to score a pair of tries at $6.50.
