Formula 1 – Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying Session Preview, Prediction, Time & Schedule.

On Saturday, the 8th of May 2021, the Aramco Gran Premio De España 2021 qualifying session will kick-off at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya by 13:00 (GMT+1).

This will be the fourth race of the F1 calendar after last weekend's Portuguese Grand Prix where we saw Lewis Hamilton win by a wide margin, +29.148s over 2nd placed Max Verstappen. Red Bull just didn’t have the pace to challenge Mercedes although Max beat Valtteri Bottas to second place with some margin. The titanic battle is set to continue in another race weekend which kicks off this Friday. As usual, there will be three practice sessions on Friday before this qualifying session scheduled for Saturday. The usual suspects – Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz – both of Ferrari, Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren) and team-mate Lando Norris will be fighting for the upper-mid positions on the grid this Saturday. Vettel appears to be gradually finding his feet, at least compared to what we saw in the debut race of the season. Newcomer, Mick Schumacker (Haas) continues to learn the ropes and will be itching to impress on Saturday.

What Does the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya Look Like?

Saturday’s Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying session will be held at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya - a 4.675km long race track. It held its first grand prix in 1991 and is composed of what can be called bends and relatively straights. There will be two DRS Detection Zones – before turn 9, and turn 16. This 66-lap race will cover a total length of 308.424 km.

What Can We Expect at the Qualifying Session, Spanish Grand Prix?

It remains evident that Mercedes will face very stiff competition from Red Bull this season. Last weekend in Portugal, Valtteri Bottas shrugged off his earlier struggles and picked up pole position while team mate, Lewis Hamilton started in 2nd place on the grid. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was in the 3rd spot on the grid while team mate Sergio Perez followed right behind Max in 4th. The “Big-three” are expected in the top three positions at the end of this qualifying session. Vettel started from 10th place last weekend and slipped down three spots on race day, - in 13th place. The four-time F1 Champion (2010-2013) will be looking to finish inside the top-ten on Saturday in anticipation of a better finish on Sunday than at the Portuguese Grand Prix.
