AFL ROUND 8

WESTERN BULLDOGS VS CARLTON BLUES

SUNDAY MAY 9, 3.20 PM, MARVEL STADIUM, MELBOURNE

The Dogs and Blues will enjoy a game in Melbourne under the roof, at the luxurious Marvel Stadium, this Sunday afternoon, in a game the Blues will look to show the AFL world how good they are, against the testing material the Doggies. Yes, the Dogs are 6-1 but that loss was last week, when premiers Richmond defeated them to kick-off round 7, on Friday evening, so they will be eager to make amends and keep pace with others who are setting the world on fire.  Carlton are travelling ok, at 3-4, but a win here would surely show that they are top 8 contenders for certain, they defeated the Bombers last weekend, but this is a big step up in quality.  A game under the roof offers clubs opportunities to play without influence from the elements, which can be a distinct advantage in a wild weatherwise place like Melbourne.

One of the many star Dogs, Jason Johannisen celebrates his 150th in this game, and will be looking to do it properly, by defeating the Blues, who also have a 150th celebration as Liam Jones is on the same number.  South Sudanese rookie Buku Khamis debuts for the Dogs in an exciting moment for the club, at half back, while Jordan Sweet is tasked with the ruck duties, as Martin is injured; Schache is out and so is West.  Mitch McGovern is a noteworthy out for Carlton, while Dow and Petrevski-Seton are high profile omissions, from the selection table.  Two experienced players return for the Blues, in the shape of Zac Williams at half back and Silvagni across half forward.

Carlton have recorded sizable victories in two of the last three against the Dogs which is rather surprising, as they won by 52 last July and 44 in April 2019, while the Dogs were the winners in the June 2019 clash.  The Dogs are clear cut contenders for 2021, as they have reduced their odds to $5.50, while Carlton are long shots at $51, and can only bring that number down by recording wins in games like these. The Dogs are four goals better according to the margin markets, and deserved $1.28 favourites, as they look to make the loss against Richmond last week a blip on their radar, whereas the Blues are $3.75 chances.

PREDICTION: Dogs should win by 20-30.

BETTING TIP: Double your money for a conservative bet of Dogs by 1-39, or triple your coin if you are more bullish, and think they win by 40+.
